Analog mode on X2 Modules

Analog Mode refers to the system's ability to handle analog audio signals in addition to the digital RAVENNA audio signals. It is available only on X2 modules.

  • Analog mode is required for Voice Alarm systems and other applications that use analog audio inputs, rather than digital networked audio.

  • When in Analog Mode, the system uses a separate preset configuration that is specifically designed for analog audio. This preset has audio inputs mapped to analog signals.

Prerequisites

  • Project Configuration:

    The project uploaded into the system must include a preset that supports analog audio inputs. This analog preset is distinct from the regular presets and requires a specific configuration for analog operation in the system design tool. Additionally, the analog beams and modules must be correctly mapped to the analog inputs within the project configuration.

  • Hardware Compatibility:

    The connected hardware, such as the X2 modules, must support analog audio inputs and be compatible with the Analog Mode functionality. Additionally, analog audio sources—such as microphones or other analog devices—should be correctly connected to the compatible analog inputs on the modules.

The Analog Preset is not displayed in the preset list because it cannot be activated through standard preset switching. It can coexist with any regular preset.

Setup

  1. Go to Settings › Audio Sources

  2. If the project has only one analog preset, it will be selected by default.

  3. Under Operation, the analog mode behavior can be configured. There are three options:

    1. Manual force: Manually switch the modules to analog mode.

    2. Fallback: The modules will revert to analog mode when they detect network issues, such as unassigned IP addresses or link loss.

    3. Override: The modules will automatically switch to analog mode if the selected input signal level exceeds a user-configured threshold.

  4. Route the analog input(s) to audio inputs on the Analog tab in the Routing Matrix.

  5. In the Navigation Bar, go to Tuning › Analog to tune the beams of the analog preset. The EQ and other parameters for the analog beams must be configured and tuned for the specific analog audio setup.

  6. When in analog mode, the modules and beams will be displayed in the interface in blue to differentiate them from the digital RAVENNA signals. Additionally, the footer will display a badge with the number of modules in analog mode.

Setting up RAVENNA streams and Analog Mode together

Analog Mode can be assigned as a backup for when a single stream or stream pair fails. Make sure Fallback to Analog Mode is toggled on on the stream settings. To enable it, go to Settings › Audio Sources, click the stream's contextual menu, and select Stream Settings.

Analog fallback and recovery

A module automatically switches to Analog Mode when its RAVENNA audio is no longer available, after network path and stream redundancy have been attempted. This occurs only if Fallback to Analog Mode is enabled, the project includes an Analog Preset, and the connected hardware supports analog inputs.

If a backup stream is configured, the system switches to it first. The module enters Analog Mode only when neither the main nor backup stream is available.

Analog fallback is different from Override and Manual force. Those modes are triggered by user settings or input signal level, not by stream or network status.

Stream failure fallback (network still connected)

If the active RAVENNA stream fails, the system detects the issue using the selected monitoring method. This can be pilot-tone detection or network-packet (RTP) monitoring.

If a backup (secondary) stream is configured, the system uses it first; Analog is engaged only when both the main and the backup stream have failed. Recovery is automatic: as soon as the main or backup stream is healthy again, the module returns to RAVENNA without operator action.

Full network-loss fallback (module isolated)

If a module loses network connectivity completely, it switches to Analog Mode automatically. This can happen, for example, after link loss or if the module no longer has a valid network connection.

When the network connection is restored, the module reconnects to the system and restores its stream configuration automatically. It then returns to RAVENNA mode.

This recovery takes longer than recovery from a stream failure, but no operator action is required.
